Christmas Card Recycling
Posted December 19, 2010

For the third year, the Wilmarth's are collecting used Christmas cards (and any other used greeting cards) on behalf of St Jude's Ranch for Children in Texas and Nevada.

The children of St Jude's participate in making new cards by removing the fronts of the cards and attaching a new back made with recycled paper. In 2008, 15 pounds of greeting card fronts were collected in White Bluff, and in 2009, 42 pounds were collected to help the St Jude's program.

If you would like to help, you can drop off any used cards you have at the Wilmarth home. You can cut off the backs and drop off just the fronts, or you can drop off the entire card and they will remove the backs. Greeting cards with handwriting on the back side of the front of the card cannot be used.

The address to drop off the cards is 46010 White Bluff Dr. It is a gray stone house just past the condos. If no one is home, there will be a box to the right of the front door where you can leave them. Please drop off your cards by the middle of January.

For more information on the program, email Linda Wilmarth or call her at 694-4236, or go to the St Jude's greeting card recycling program website.

WB POA Town Hall Meeting
Posted November 15, 2010

George Collins called the 11/13 WB POA Town Hall meeting to order with the Board, Fred Molsen and about 60 residents present.  He reported that through September, we are on plan for the POA budget as established earlier in the year.   All capital improvements this year were fully funded from revenues including about $250K for contracted road repairs completed earlier this year and $106K for the POA portion of the Old Course greens replacement.

Milt Bergman reported that the WB roads suffered substantial damage from the flooding earlier this year. 30-40 areas were affected and the estimated cost to repair them is $135-300K. Fred Molsen has asked the insurance company to evaluate the road damage to see if insurance coverage applies. At the same time the POA is looking at improving some of the more heavily trafficked roads with extra width and concrete ribbon curbing. Milt is soliciting help from any property owner Civil Engineers or persons with roads experience in support of this effort – contact Milt if you can help.

George also reported that Financial policies for POA funds have been established and are in place; a copy is available for review at the POA office. The Bylaws of the POA are now on the POA website in the POA subsection of the Members section, along with minutes of the two most recent board meetings. The POA is making a significant effort to make increased use of the website to improve communication.

Guin McGinnis, President of the WBVFD announced the purchase and in-service status of the new pumper fire engine. This equipment was purchased at the recommendation of a consultant as part of a plan to improve our ISO (Insurance) rating. The new ISO inspection will take place in February 2011 and all insurance companies will be notified of the results.

Susan Johnston spoke on behalf of the Joint Committee for Christmas to announce the "Toys for Angels" Christmas gift program. There will be a gift drop-off date at the WBVFD on Sunday 12/12 from 2-4 PM. In addition, Double Diamond has generously donated $500 in support of this effort.

Milt Bergman explained Careflight Air Ambulance Services and reminded the residents that everyone is automatically a member as part of Hill County ESD #2. However it is important that you fill out the sign-up information card . Air Evac was also mentioned as a second provider of air ambulance service; Air Evac membership is by subscription and a discount is available through Hilco.

Fred Molsen announced that the AT&T tower will not be built this year. Improvements are planned for Bear Creek RV Park to add 50 amp electrical service, and repairs will be made to bathroom facilities at both RV parks. He also mentioned that there are currently no plans for new greens on the New Course. They are looking at a plan for "limited play" during the heat of the summer to keep the greens as healthy as possible. There is no fee increase planned for 2011 for slips in the Marina.

In early November 2011, it will be required for all Hill County residences to have their address clearly posted on the property. Any WB residents who do not yet have their reflective 5 digit numbers can request them from the WBVFD for a donation of $30 and that includes installation.

Security answered several questions from the residents. All residents are reminded to register their guests at the front gate. Also, please obey the posted speed limits within the development.

George closed the meeting which had been very positively received.

Rally for the Cure

White Bluff Resort hosted their sixth Rally for the Cure® Golf Event on Monday, November 1. Fifty-six ladies enjoyed playing golf while rallying against breast cancer and supporting the Susan G. Komen Rally for the Cure®.

Registration fees from the four lady scramble teams plus miscellaneous donations from other individuals in the community resulted in a $2,000 contribution to the Komen Foundation. A big "thank you" goes out to the many volunteers who helped make this event a huge success.

The mission of Rally for the Cure is to empower people to join the fight against breast cancer by providing a platform for them to educate their family, friends and community on the importance of early detection through an activity they are passionate about. Since 1996 Komen has received over $50 million from Rally events to support their mission.

A participant in the event shared that her granddaughter is in a grassroots organization called the "Ta Tas" that educates young women on the importance of breast cancer health care and early detection. Some of the marketing endeavors left from our event were sent to this group. For more information and to help spread the news to parents and grandparents, go to the website www.savethetatas.com.

Individuals can support this great cause by continuing to save the pink lids from Yoplait, Dannon and Activa yogurt. Donations will benefit breast cancer research.

WB VFD Says Thanks
Posted October 1, 2010

The White Bluff VFD would like to thank everyone who helped make the 2010 Street Dance a big success.

Over 200 people attended this year's event, and many more who could not attend contributed donations. The kids enjoyed a special storytime and entertainment just for them, and young and old alike were interested in the Air Evac helicopter that flew in for the event.

As in past years, the raffle was a lot of fun. There were over 35 raffle items, and it was fun to see who won what items. Several people had luck on their side that night and won more than one item, which led to some friendly ribbing from the crowd.

The cash pot drew a lot of interest. The lucky winner donated the proceeds back to the VFD, which was greatly appreciated.

The WB Water Committee donated the remainder of their funds to the department in a short presentation. Guin McGinnis, president of the VFD, and Bob Kruse, fire chief, accepted the check and promised to use the funds in the best way possible to benefit the residents of White Bluff.

To see some pictures of the event, click here.

Posted September 11, 2010

Good news: the recent 10" or so of rains have filled the lake above the 'normal' level of 533 feet to a peak of 535 feet (now back close to 533 with recent releases from Whitney Dam). The bad news is that the lake and surrounding streams have not been flooded in some time, and this means that for the next several weeks, boaters need to beware of floating logs and other debris in the lake.

Some of those large stumps that were just above the surface a couple of weeks ago are now just below, so beware when boating in areas with stumps.

Also, if your boat is in the marina, check it for water accumulation during the storms.

Posted September 8, 2010, 1:20 pm

The White Bluff Covered Bridge reopened about 12:50 this afternoon. FM 933 into Whitney opened about 1/2 hour before that.

White Bluff Drive by the marina is closed, due to water overflowing from the pond into the lake. There is water over the roads in numerous other places throughout the neighborhood. The forecast calls for more rain this afternoon, so it is best to stay home if possible today.

Posted September 8, 2010, 9:20 am

The White Bluff Covered Bridge is closed due to flooding. In addition, FM 933 and FM 934 are also closed, along with Whitney schools.

We will post further information when we hear more. If you hear that the bridge is reopened before we do, please let us know at info@whitebluffnow.com

The White Bluff program is taught by an instructor from the Joshua area. It is a low-impact, aerobic workout, for the "retired ladies". Each class costs $15 per person.

The group meets Wednesdays from 10am-11am at the Sales Office. If you want to participate, you must signup first with Connie Stahl at 694-3671 or cstahl4024@aol.com.

For ice cream treats and shaved ice, try The Island.  It's in downtown Whitney on Colorado St, just north of Colorado Street Grille.

Surf's Up !
Posted July 18, 2010

Well, actually the lake level is up. Thanks to a substantial water release from Possum Kingdom Lake and Lake Granbury, we have an additional 3 1/2 feet of water in Lake Whitney over the last couple of weeks and are now above the lake level where we started the summer. At 532 feet, we are just 1 foot below "full".

With the lake level up, it is a great time to take a ride up the Brazos. The river is navigable all the way to Ham Creek Park where there are restroom facilities and a picnic area. Be sure to use a map for your trip upriver to avoid the mud flats.

White Bluff Now "Favorites / Bookmarks"
Posted July 18, 2010

If you have setup "Favorites" or "Bookmarks" in your browser for any of the pages in White Bluff Now except the home page, you will most likely need to save them again.

When we first envisioned White Bluff Now, we thought it would be 6-7 pages of information. It has grown to over 70 pages at this point, and we have had to switch to more robust software to maintain the site effectively.

The site should look nearly identical, with the exception of adding a new button on the left menu for Recycling, and a new page listing the WB POA Board of Directors now.
